Mike is Principal of Zup Co., Inc., a natural resource and sportsmen’s consulting firm. Currently, he represents the Wildland Fire Leadership Council, an intergovernmental committee of federal, state, tribal and local officials convened by the Secretaries of the Interior, Agriculture, Defense and Homeland Security. In the recent past, he represented the Southern Governors’ Association on natural resource issues. Mike was also responsible for the coordination of all aspects of the regional cohesive wildland fire management strategy organization. He has also represented the Southern Group of State Foresters as executive director, served as executive director of a collaborative natural resource research partnership, represented hunting and fishing guides/services on both policy issues and strategic marketing, and represented forest industry and landowners on a host of issues.
Mike graduated from the Warnell School of Forest Resources, University of Georgia, with a BSFR degree. He also attended University of Idaho and has completed postgraduate work in management. He is a registered forester in the State of Georgia and a Certified Forester through SAF.
Mike has a wonderful wife of over 20 years and two great children. Mike enjoys spending free time with the family and all types of hunting and fishing as well as all water and snow sports. Mike and his wife are active members of the Monroe First Baptist Church in Monroe, Georgia.
